The arrival of a specialist crane to the A465 Section 2 site at Brynmawr has been delayed on due to adverse weather conditions.
The crane required to lift the arch sections of the Gateway Bridge is a 1200T mobile crane, which has limited availability and has been delayed on a project in Methil, Scotland. The Gottwald AK680 is one of the largest cranes operating in the UK.
Due to the delay, the two planned full weekend closures scheduled for January 12 and 19 and the supporting weekday night closures on January 15 and 16 and between January 22 and 23 will now be rearranged for later in January and early February.
John Lee, Construction Manager for Costain said, “Unfortunately there is limited access to the size of crane we require to lift the bridge sections at Brynmawr and understandably severe weather conditions and the high winds associated with Storm Eleanor has delayed work on a project in Scotland, which in turn has delayed the availability of the crane for our work at Brynmawr.
"This is not an unusual event and our work schedule will be reorganised to ensure the delay does not affect the overall delivery programme.”
