HOMEMAKERS Community Recycling recently opened its new educational garden at its recycling yard on Merthyr Road.
The charitable social enterprise purchased part of the former gas works in 2013 and has slowly been improving facilities.
The educational garden and work space facilities were part funded by The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust.
The garden was opened by the Eco Committee of Cantref School who became Homemakers first visiting school.
The garden is based around re-use with children planting daffodils for St David’s Day in items such as sinks and baths that were destined for landfill. The funding also allowed Homemakers to provide a working area on the site for upcycling furniture which will allow volunteers to learn new skills.
Rob Davies of Homemakers said, “We would like to thank the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust for their support and also Cantref School for opening the garden.
“We are looking to involve all the primary schools of Monmouthshire in the future as we develop our already strong educational links.”
