A new film based on Fflur Dafydd’s award winning novel Y Llyfrgell (The Library Suicides) is to receive its Welsh premier at Abergavenny’s Baker Street Cinema on Monday evening as part of the National Eisteddfod.

The offbeat thriller premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival last month and won Catrin Stewart an award for Best Performance in a British Feature. The film is based on Fflur Dafydd’s novel, which won the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize at the 2009 National Eisteddfod.

The dark tale tells of the suicide of famous author Elena Wdig (Sharon Morgan) whose twin daughters, librarians Nan and Ana (both played by Catrin Stewart), are lost without her.

Elena’s final words suggest her biographer Eben (Ryland Teifi) murdered her and during one night shift the twins set off on a murderous quest to avenge their mother’s death at the National Library but are soon disrupted by night porter Dan (Dyfan Dwyfor) who is unwillingly caught up in the drama.

The film is directed by Bafta Cymru award-winning director Euros Lyn , whose previous credits include Doctor Who and Broadchurch and was filmed in the iconic The National Library of Wales building in Aberystwyth.

The film will be shown at the Baker Street cinema in Abergavenny. It will then be shown at Aberystwyth Arts Centre and at Pontio Bangor from August 5 to 11.
