THE annual Abergavenny Town Council Community Awards are a way of recognising the achievements of local people. Once again, readers have the opportunity to make nominations for the 2017 awards. The awards are inscribed town plaques and are presented to recognise the valuable contribution made by individuals in the voluntary field.

• Candidates for the awards should live within the Abergavenny Town Council area or be involved in voluntary work in the town.

• Nominations can be made by individuals and organisations, but not members of the council as the final recommendations for the awards will be made by the council.

There must be many people in Abergavenny who deserve recognition for the valuable contribution they make to the community - many of them will be unsung heroes. please return your nominations as soon as possible.

The Mayor, Town Clerk and the Editor of the Chronicle will consider the nominations before the final recommendation for the awards is made by town councillors. A maximum of four awards can be presented in any one year, and they will be presented by the Mayor as one of his final duties before leaving office. The names of those presented with awards will be recorded in a presentation book.

You can either submit your nominations by using the form in next week’s Abergavenny Chronicle or by filling in the online form here.
