A CACOPHONY of bangs, flashes, ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ accompanied by some of the most memorable music of the last half-century is heading for Belgrave Park, Abergavenny as the town’s Round Table get set to stage their fiftieth anniversary fireworks display.

The popular event moved to the park in 1968, but that long-gone Swinging Sixties display will bear little relation to the hi-tech, computer controlled extravaganza awaiting the audience on the evening of November 5.

Organiser, Matt Lane, of Abergavenny Round Table, said, ‘We have faced a lot of challenges and unforeseen expenditures this year but we’re confident of bringing the public the best display ever.

‘We can promise lots of surprises, it’s going to be a fantastic show with everything set to music commemorating the last fifty years.

‘Tickets are limited owing to the Park’s capacity so we would advise people to get them in advance wherever possible.

“They can be obtained from Abergavenny Round Table’s website or our Facebook Page - and, if you buy before October 29th you get them at last year’s prices of a fiver for adults and £3 for children as opposed to £6 and £4 on the gate.’

‘We are also inviting anyone who has been a member of Abergavenny Round Table over the last fifty years to get in touch as we would like to invite them along.’

Matt also issued a warning about dodgy and potentially dangerous merchandise, saying, ‘Last year there were a number of people selling cheap glow-sticks outside the Park, these broke after just a minute or two and people were demanding refunds from our official sellers.

‘Please make sure you buy only off our Round Table sellers inside the Park - all money raised goes to local good causes.’

Gates will be opened at 5:30pm and the display starts at 7:00pm. There will be stalls selling hot dogs, soup and warm drinks with a small fairground for children.
