A ‘fire’ which was reported at an Abergavenny jewellery store this morning turned out to be a false alarm.
Reports of thick smoke billowing from the Pandora store on Abergavenny’s High Street this morning led many to believe a blaze had broken out.
However, a spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue service said the incident was mistaken. A security system known as a ‘smoke cloak’ was set off, issuing clouds of smoke throughout the building.
“This incident was a false alarm,” said the spokeswoman. “A smoke cloak was activated — a security device which sets off smoke when triggered.
“Fortunately, there was no fire to report.”
