A GILWERN woman was so touched by the kindness of her local refuse collection team she simply had to contact the Chronicle and tell us of their thoughtfulness.

Adrianne Ingham, of Abergavenny Road, states her husband’s world became so much smaller due to ill health and a simple wave from the bin men as he sat in his day chair in the window became a source of great comfort to him.

Following a stroke eighteen months ago, 87-year-old Eric Ingham found himself confined to a chair during the day. With little outside contact one of his few joys is waving at the bin men and receiving a wave back each week.

She said, ‘The bin men would look out for Eric and always wave and call out. On the first collection after New Years Day they left their wagon and came up into the house to have a chat with him. This might seem a small thing to anyone else but it made his day to know they had taken the time to do this.

‘They left their wagon and came up to the house specifically to wish him the compliments of the season.

“It is all too easy to criticise these days but this one small act of kindness made his world a bigger place and I can’t thank them enough.’

A spokesman for the crew stated they were delighted to know how much their visit meant to Eric stating, ‘It only takes a minute to keep an eye our for each other. It’s good to know little things like that can make such a difference.’
