Members of Gilwern Primary School have raised £2,635 for Alzheimers Society after completing a charity run.
‘Jog on Dementia’ is a charity event organised by Alzhiemers Soicety, where people complete a marathon challenge by running or walking 26.2 miles in one month.
The event took place in March this year, and after a close family member of someone from Gilwern Primary School was diagnosed with Dementia, a team from the school decided to take up the challenge.
As a team, Gilwern Geese aimed to walk or run 500 miles between them all in March. The team not only completed the challenge but smashed their original target of 500 miles, covering a total of 1,191.3 miles and raising £2,635 for the Alzheimers charity.
Speaking about the challenge, a member of Gilwern Geese said: “The past year had been tough for everyone, but Coronavirus hit those affected by Dementia hard, continuing to disrupt lives. All of us have been affected by Dementia, so that’s why we laced up our trainers and took on ‘Jog on Dementia’.
“We are so proud to have smashed our target and are grateful to everyone who donated towards our challenge. It was an outstanding team effort, raising money and awareness for an important cause.”
