Gwent Police have warned Abergavenny locals of an ongoing difficulty with landline phones.

A spokesperson from Gwent Police took to Twitter, saying: "We've been informed by the BT Group that some landline phones in the Abergavenny area may currently be experiencing no dial tone and be unable to make outgoing calls including to 999."

Work is currently underway to fix the issue and BT anticipate that the service will be restored this evening.

The national 999 call handling service remains fully operational and Gwent Police operators are not affected. Internet-based services are also unaffected.
