Madam, Artists Against Wind Farms, a group of artists from all over Britain, are organising a nationwide event on Sunday 1 May. They are asking all artists who want to save the landscape from being turned into industrial wind factory sites to go out into their landscapes on this day to make a painting protest. Author David Bellamy and his wife Jenny Keal are organising one of the events, at Mynydd y Gwair, near Swansea. He said: "Applications for wind turbine sites are burgeoning in some of the most unspoilt corners of the UK, threatening to industrialise areas that epitomise the essence of the British Isles. The majesty of the Lake District, the wild Yorkshire uplands, the rugged Scottish glens, the haunting beauty of the Isle of Lewis, the lonely hills of Wales, and the charm of Devon and Cornwall are all under threat." There will be events all around Great Britain, but if there isn't one near you, you can still take part. We will be displaying photos from all the locations on the website afterwards, so if you are on your own, just send us a digital photo of yourself sketching your threatened landscape, plus (if you want to) a digital photo of your work, and we will display it alongside the others. We hope you will have a good day and enjoy yourselves - bring a picnic if you like! Think of it as a fun paint - you don't need to be a great artist to participate, any more than you need to be a fast runner to take part in a fun run. This is about connecting with your landscape and showing that you care, and absolute beginners are very welcome, as well as enthusiastic supporters to cheer us on.
