THE Mardy Tigers U10's girl football team rounded off their successful season with a special ceremony where every girl was presented with a medal in recognition of their sporting prowess.

The Tigers have played 68 games this season, won 48, drawn 11 and lost only nine.

The Tigers can also boast the impressive record of scoring a total of 140 goals this season and conceding only 33.

Within the large Abergavenny club the U10's are affectionately known as the Cubs and the girls have a lot to live up to as last season the U16's won the Welsh Girls FA Cup Final and the Tesco Regional Cup.

The Tigers U14 side also won the Tesco Regional Cup in their age group last season.

The U10's initially started their campaign with just six girls but their ranks are now swelled by a further nine players and the 'cubs' look set to expand further as their reputation grows.

A spokesman for the club explained, "The dedication and commitment from the girls is quite incredible in such young people. Alongside the club, the team can only go from strength to strength as women's football gains more momentum with each passing year."
