AN Abergavenny student who has been chosen to take part of a once in a lifetime educational trip to a Welsh outpost in South America has launched a Go Fund Me page to finance her ambition.
Meg Roberts, 16, a pupil at Pontypool’s Ysgol Gyfun Gwynlliw, has been chosen to take part in Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s volunteering trip to Patagonia, this autumn.
Meg, a fluent Welsh speaker, has a strong passion for the Spanish language and Latin American cultures, making her ideal for the trip in which twenty-five Year 12 & 13 students from across Wales are selected to travel to Patagonia in order to strengthen Welsh cultural and linguistic ties between Wales and ’Y Wladfa’ - the Argentinian Welsh Colony.
During the two-week trip, Meg will help to lead sessions with children learning the Welsh language, visiting Patagonians of Welsh descent, working in schools and colleges, helping with community projects and taking part in shows and competitions held by the schools the party visits.
To fund the trip and also support the ’Menter Patagonia’ project which develops community work in the region, each individual needs to raise £2,575.
Helen said, ‘I am undertaking various fundraising events in my school and local community, but would greatly appreciate any donations, no matter how small, to help me take part in this unforgettable trip.’
