THIS week saw Abergavenny schools benefit from yet another link with the community when Gilwern Primary and Llantillio Pertholey School were fortunate enough to become recipients of new rugby kits.
Gilwern School's head teacher Roger Guy was approached by a member of the Abergavenny Round Table with an offer for sponsorship for a new kit.
Two new sets of kit were provided from the money raised by the round table members through a charity golf match in which both schools participated.
Richard Aylett, the year four teacher and rugby coach at Gilwern School arranged a match with Llantilio Pertholey. It is hoped that this match will become an annual event played for a trophy- The Abergavenny Schools Round Table Cup.
The first game was held on Friday, November 21 and was well supported by parents, governors, pupils and members of the round table. Both e teams paye well and the final score as Llantilio 20 Gilwern 15.
Abergavenny Round Table are committed to providing support to both school and sports development within the primary sector. They would like more schools to become involved in rugby and would welcome enquiries from schools who hope to participate in the Round Table Cup in years to come.
