Next Sunday (May 14) there will be a unique opportunity to view the garden at Pant yr Onen, about 2½ miles west of Abergavenny, which is opening to the public for the first time
Owner Pip Hassall explained, “We have lived here for nearly 30 years and the garden has evolved over that time from almost nothing.
“It is just over one and a half acres and is probably at its best in the spring as we have planted lots of bulbs.
“There are many kinds of fruit trees, a soft fruit cage, vegetable garden and wildlife areas as well as meadows from which we make fifty or sixty bales of hay.
“The flower borders contain a variety of plants, many of which are quite rare, as plants are a passion.”
Pip is opening her garden to help raise funds for her local church, St Peter’s Llanwenarth Citra, which needs to raise over £500,000 to carry out urgent repairs to the roof and tower as well as installing basic facilities to bring it into the 21st century.
There are lots more fundraising activities planned during the year.
The garden is easy to reach from the A40. Turn by Pyscodlyn Farm Caravan site and follow the signs (the postcode NP7 7EP will get you roughly there).
The garden in open from 1pm to 5pm and there will be teas and plants for sale.
