The Post Office is proposing to move Penperlleni Post Office from its current location at Newtown Road to the Spar store a short distance away.
Customers and interested parties are invited to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.
The Post Office says the aim is to create 'a modern open-plan, local-style branch with extended opening hours'.
Post Office Regional Network Manager for Wales, Tony Jones, said: "We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Penperlleni and we are confident that this new modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.
"The proposed changes are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6,000 branches (about half the Post Office network) converting to new-style branches.
"The investment marks a commitment to branches rather than more branch closure programmes,"?said Mr Jones.
Post Office Local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services from an open plan counter with Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours.
Opening hours at the proposed new location will be 8.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm on Saturday and 9.30am to 8pm on Sunday, offering customers an extra 33 hours a week to access Post Office products and services.
Customers will be able to carry out a wide range of services including cash withdrawal and access to Post Office financial and travel services as well as mail services.
Now independent of Royal Mail, the Post Office is the largest retail network in the UK, with over 11,500 branches.
"It is also one of the fastest growing financial services companies and is developing its online and telephony services.
During the public consultation Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken.
The consultation will close on March 21.

Commenting on the proposal Councillor Bryan Jones said he was paid tribute to the current owner of the post office and said he was pleased that the service was to retained in the village.
"I was pleased to hear that the Post Office will move to a new location rather than being closed down as happens to so many villages these days.
"Thanks to Kevin for his service to the village and good luck to the Post Office in its new home in the SPAR shop," said Councillor Jones.
