The Annual Presentation Evening for Raglan and District Farmers’ held this year at the Cwrt Bleddn Hotel near Usk had a reality TV theme –‘I’m a Farmer Get Me Out of Here’, complete with creepy crawlies, with award winners and judges alike delving into a box of maggots collecting stars for their table, the table collecting the most stars by the end of the evening receiving a prize.
The entertainment continued throughout the evening, with members Rhys Whittingham, and Dale Radnor and Richard Wadley performing a hilarious Ant & Dec sketch midway through the presentation of awards by the respective judges, each of whom gave an entertaining report. This, together with a delicious meal contributed to an excellent evening of entertainment, ably organised by secretaries Val Cooke and Rachel Cook, and compered by Chairman Stan Evans. The evening was enjoyed by over 150 members and friends.
President David Morgan thanked all concerned for another fantastic evening , and then conducted the customary ‘Heads or Tails’ competition, which raised over £700 , to be donated to Wales YFC towards the moneys being raised throughout Wales to enable the National Federation to secure their future in their headquarters on the Royal Welsh Showground.
The judging of the competitions in 2016 had taken on a new format in 2016, with s group of judges from Weobly Ploughing Society coming into Monmouthshire to judge many of the competitions in return for judging of on farm competitions for both Weobly and Ledbury Ploughing Societies by members of Raglan Farmers’ Association. On the day, after enjoying a magnificent breakfast in Monmouthshire Livestock market’s award winning cafe , the judges were taken round the farms by members of Raglan Farmers’ Association; all concerned then met up at the end of the day for a meal at the Cripple Creek..
