Madam, Isn't it rich? I read in the press that the Forestry Commission and RSPB Cymru are conducting a survey in forests in the Welsh hills to count very rare black grouse, as part of the" National Black Grouse Lek Count Year". They intend to "remodel our forests to recreate favourable black grouse habitats not seen in Wales since the beginning of the 20th century". What rank hypocrisy! Cefn Croes, the site of 39 recently-installed wind turbines, 327 feet in height, near Aberystwyth, has always been well-known as a Black Grouse lekking (or mating) site, both to the Forestry Commission and the RSPB. Yet the gigantic wind turbines have been built on Forestry Commission land there, with the commission's full support! I would remind everybody that we, the Welsh people, own all Forestry Commission land in Wales, and that Forestry Commission personnel are public servants employed to manage our land on our behalf. Who has given them the mandate to erect wind turbines on land meant for trees? Have we, the land-owners, ever been asked? If the Forestry Commission Wales and RSPB Cymru are truly concerned for rare birds like the Black Grouse and Red Kite, why have they not objected publicly to the wind turbines that are proposed for the Welsh Hills under the Assembly's TAN 8 proposals? Yours etc, Lyn James Jenkins Clyn-yr-ynys Gwbert Cardigan.
