A BLANKET of snow covered Monmouthshire yesterday causing major disruptions to businesses, schools and motorists.
Many workers were left stranded on untreated valley roads and pupils were sent home because of the extreme temperatures.
This morning Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni in Abergavenny, St Peters Primary, Blaenavon and Hillside Nursery in Blaenavon were closed because of the poor weather and it is believed that several other schools will follow suit before the end of the day.
Weather forecasters from the Met Office said that up to 10cm (4in) of snowfall was expected in parts of Wales in the next two days.
"The cold weather will continue right through the night, but we are not sure exactly where it will fall." They advised people going out to check the forecast and road conditions beforehand.
