LOCAL ice cream man C J Copner has once again been putting Abergavenny on the map after working behind the scenes with Heart Radio to bring free ice cream to an entire Welsh school.
Heart Radio’s Frank the Parrot got in the mood for Wales’ biggest summer of football by trying to learn the name of Wales’ star player, Gareth Bale.
If Frank managed to Say “Gareth Bale” by half-term, one school in Wales would be picked by Heart to win free ice-cream.
The parrot talked and the lucky school picked was YGG Abercynon. And it was Abergavenny’s very own C J Copner who was selected to get in his van with Jagger and Woody from Heart Wales and deliver over 400 cones to the delighted children.
C J told the Chronicle, “ The huge can ‘Frankie the parrot say Gareth Bale’ competition went epic. Our Facebook page crashed due to the amount of traffic and thousands of hits we were receiving.
“The whole of Abergavenny is talking about it I’ve had people coming out of their homes over the weekend saying they recognised the van and how great it was to see the town being positively represented on such a wide stage.”
C J added, ““We did around 400 cones for the school in about an hour. We went double crewed on this one as it was a major turnaround in short time, so thank you for Matt Lane for coming along to assist.”
Now all Gareth Bale and the rest of the Wales squad have to do is win the Euro 2016 for Wales, and they’ll no doubt get an ice-cream on the house the next time they’re in Aber.
