YSGOL Gymraeg Y Fenni is celebrating its biggest success yet in the forthcoming Urdd Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay (25 - 30 May).
The school will be representing the former Gwent area in the hotly-contested 'Cân Actol' competition which takes place on the stage of the Wales Millennium Centre on Bank Holiday Monday at 6.30pm.
Having beaten stiff competition to reach the final round, pupils will perform an original ten-minute musical, written by their headteacher Mrs. Ann Bellis. And their performance will be broadcast live on S4C.
The school is currently filled with music every day, as Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni is also competing in the choir competition and the mixed-medium dance competition.
Singing and dancing is not their only forte. Three pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni will have their artworks exhibited in The Senedd during the Urdd Eisteddfod. They have each won a top prize in the art and craft competitions, beating thousands of entries from across Wales.
Head teacher Mrs Ann Bellis is thrilled at the prizes already won by her pupils and is looking forward to the school's moment of stardom in the Wales Millennium Centre.
'"t's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the pupils – something they'll remember in years to come," said Mrs Bellis.
"For Abergavenny's name to be seen amongst the winners in the Urdd Eisteddfod is a credit to our talented pupils, our hard-working staff and the tremendous support provided by the parents," said Mrs Bellis.
