Llanover-based vet to Team GB’s multi-medal winning Paralympic dressage team, Rod Fisher BVSc MRCVS, will be sharing his experiences of Rio in an illustrated talk at Llanarth next week (Nov 21).

The team’s haul of medals included team gold, six individual gold and four silver.

The audience will hear how the horses were prepared for the Paralympics and about their time in Rio and their safe journey home.

Rod and Abbey Equine have for many years also been responsible for the care of the horses and ponies rescued by the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies (SWHP) and the talk will raise valuable funds for the charity’s Winter Feed Appeal.

Lead farrier for Team GB’s dressage and show jumping horses, Usk-based Haydn Price Dip WCF, will be joining Rod with his own stories about Rio.

It’s a great chance to hear some of the behind the scenes stories of the much-loved equine star Valegro at his final Olympics and the long-awaited success of veteran show jumper Nick Skelton in his quest for Olympic gold.

The talk will be illustrated with Haydn’s personal photographs and recollections.

The event entitled ‘Golden Tales from Rio’ takes place on Monday November 21 at Llanarth Village Hall at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available for £12 on the door or £10 in advance from Abbey Vets, Abergavenny, Wye Valley Country Store, Monmouth or by phoning or emailing SWHP. The cost includes a light supper.
