LOCAL athlete Bryony Turnbull (pictured) has been selected to run for Wales in the Celtic Indoor Games after her victory in the Welsh Indoor Championships last month.

In only her fourth 400m race, Bryony won the women's senior title at the Welsh Championships in a personal best time.

With a strong opening 200m, she was able to secure the inside line on the tight indoor track, holding off her rivals for a comfortable win.

Since joining a new coach at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), Bryony has switched from 100m and 200m sprinting to the longer 400m event.

Her last Welsh vest came as a teenager over the shorter sprints. Her early success over 400m suggests that the longer sprint distance may be her forte.

The Celtic games will be held at the National Indoor Athletics Centre this weekend.
