Abergavenny Ladies first team ended the club’s season in spectacular style, securing a 4-0 victory in their match against local rivals Gwent.
Following a successful run of games, Abergavenny brought some significant momentum and drive to the match, keeping Gwent in their own half from the first whistle. Good linking between the midfielders and forwards piled the pressure on the opposition’s keeper, with Abergavenny soon getting on the score sheet. Maintaining possession and working hard for one another, the home team’s defence pushed up to support the forwards and the team finished the first half 4-0 up.
The second half consisted of some good play, though the back of Gwent’s net remained unruffled. Abergavenny’s defence held strong, denying Gwent of several opportunities to score. A clean sheet for the goalkeeper and a very good last performance leaves the Ladies firsts a respectable fourth place in their league this season
Abergavenny Under 9s finished third in the South Wales Cup Final in Whitchurch at the end of March. With a successful season behind them, the club’s youngest stars were in high spirits and ready to give it their all.
Getting a win in the bag immediately, the team lost the following two tough games against strong contenders. Abergavenny then bounced back in great spirit, winning the next three games and drawing another. The club is so proud of all the players, who have been brilliant all season, and all their hard work has paid off with this wonderful achievement. Thank you also to the parents for their continued support.
