They gradually increased their lead in the second half of the game to win by 18 shots to seven. Ron Smith’s rink was involved in a close game, there never being more than a two shot difference throughout the match. Eventually both rinks scored five shots each over the final five ends to tie the game 16 shots all. The rink of Bill Belli fought back over the final five ends but could not totally reduce their deficit and suffered a narrow defeat, losing by 17 shots to 15.

The weather was very kind to everyone as the club completed their playing season over the week-end when the finals of all club competitions were played. The Novices Trophies were won by Sue Williams in the Ladies Novices and Kevin Matthias for the Men. The Ladies 2 Wood Singles was won by Clare Morgan and Mary Evans claimed the Ladies 7 Up trophy. The Men’s Veteran Trophy went to Robert Poynter and John Whomersley was successful in the Men’s Handicap final.

In the finals for the Club Championships Mary Evans and Clare Morgan battled it out for the title with Clare Morgan gaining the upper hand to claim the cup and title of Ladies Club Champion. In the final of the Men’s Championship, Jack Vale came back from a nine shot deficit to secure the title in a very closely contested game against Robert Poynter.

Following all the games the presentation of all the trophies was made by Club President Robert Poynter. This was followed by a buffet, supplied by local restaurant Mezze Me, and attended by 40 members of the club. This completed an excellent day for all the participants and supporters of the club who attended the event.
