Year 6 rugby players at Cantref Primary School tasted success in the annual Dragons Community Shield last week.

The team played against Langstone Primary School at Rodney Parade, Newport, during half time of the Dragons URC fixture against Ulster.

The final score was 4-4, so each school will now share the Tata Steel Phil James Community Shield for a year.

Cantref Deputy Head, Matt Davies, told the Chronicle he was proud of the young players.

“Both sets of pupils were a credit to their schools and thoroughly deserved to be winners,” he said.

“A huge thanks must go to the Dragons Rugby Community Hub, for all of their hard work, in organising such a magnificent event for the schools that they provide a service.”
