AFTER eight years in the wilderness, Crickhowell FC have once again clawed their way back into the Gwent County Leagues by winning the Gwent Central Division One championship.
Since their relegation in 2008 it has been an ongoing ambition of the club to rebuild and bounce back.
And under the stewardship of first team manager Matthew Stephen they’ve done it in fine style with an unbeaten run of games that’s seen them take the throne and claim the crown.
Club Chairman Huw Morgans told the Chronicle, “It’s been a superb culmination of everyone’s efforts. We as a club owe a huge debt of gratitude to Matthew for his commitment and drive In pushing the club towards winning the league and promotion.
“There are numerous people who have played a key role in this years success and I would like to thank all involved for their hard work and commitment to the cause.’”
Crickhowell have the opportunity to achieve an historic unbeaten season if they can win or draw their final league game of the season at home against local rivals Gilwern.
The match takes place this evening (Thursday) at Crickhowell’s Elvicta Ground, with a 6pm kick-off, and the club would like to invite everyone to share a great moment in Crickhowell’s history, as post-match they will be formally presented with the league trophy.
Huw morgans added, “The club would also like to thank Oliver Window, MD of Select Security for their support and sponsorship over the last few years. There can no doubt that this has played an enormous part in the clubs recent success.
“We are also still competing on a number of cup fronts and both the first team and the reserve team could achieve further successes, making this already great season even greater.”
