Abergavenny Ladies Seconds - 4 –
Swansea Sixths - 2
Abergavenny Hockey Club’s Ladies Seconds were back at home and back on form, stealing a 4-2 victory against Swansea Sixths.
An early goal by Sam Adams set the pace and boosted the home team’s confidence, though there was some great play by both teams. Abergavenny’s possession of the ball was confident, and led to a goal by Eleri Williams. A moment of panic in the ‘D’ saw a Swansea ball slip into the back of the net, leaving the score a slightly stressful 2-1 at half time.
The second half saw Abergavenny back to work, with another goal from Sam and one from Alannah Williams.
One more goal from Swansea left Abergavenny playing a pressured possession game for the final few minutes.
Abergavenny Ladies Firsts - 3
Whitchurch Saints - 2
Abergavenny Ladies Firsts went head to head with Whitchurch Saints on home turf as well. Right from the first whistle it was obvious this game was going to be a big battle.
With Whitchurch having most of the possession, Abergavenny worked hard to keep them out of the ‘D’ and push them back into the midfield. Both sides were competitive and equal in the first half which ended in the ladies going into the break 0-0.
As the second half opened up it was the home side who got on the score sheet first, however this was quickly turned around with Whitchurch scoring too. With a lot of competition for the ball all over the pitch, Abergavenny worked well as a team, maintaining possession and winning short corners in the ‘D’, one of which was converted giving the home side a 2-1 lead. With their heads up Abergavenny scored one more goal. However, Whitchurch came back fighting and the match ended in a nail-biting 3-2 to Abergavenny.
