LADIES' Coffee Mornings at golf clubs are always tricky things to organise - sufficient players are needed, lots of cakes and prizes have to be ready, and possibly most importantly, good weather is a must, as a washout means lots of uneaten cakes and returned entry cheques. Last Tuesday at Wernddu Golf Club all of the above were in place as their Ladies' Section welcomed visitors from Alice Springs, The Monmouthshire, Pontnewydd and Greenmeadow Golf Clubs. There was certainly no shortage of home-made cakes, and any calories worked off during the 10-hole competition were quickly replaced back in the Clubhouse. As far as weather was concerned, the morning started well but later tee-off times caught a particularly nasty shower before completing their rounds. The results were very close, with Marilyn Smith of Alice Springs coming first followed by her Clubmate Brenda Blackmore, and Sian Hopkins of Pontnewydd completed the list of visiting winners. The best 'home' player was Sheila Francis with runner-up June Anderson and Kay Blackwell won the prize for Longest Drive. Captain Dina Davies thanked all lady members for their help with prizes, flowers, raffles, bric-a-brac and of course, those cakes. New lady members are always welcome, for further details please contact the Clubhouse on 01873 856223 or the Ladies' Secretary on 01873 831566.
