Abergavenny Hockey Club’s Ladies First Team welcomed Rhondda to their home turf and although they took the game to the visitors in the first ten minutes and created lots of goal scoring opportunities they were denied any chances by the away team.
Rhondda, however, caught Abergavenny on their back foot and scored from a short corner. That was as good as it got for the visitors.
League leaders Abergavenny pulled together as a team and managed to score bounce back with an impressive flurry of goals to make a final score of 8-1.
Abergavenny Seconds played Rhondda Thirds with a team of only 11. The first half of this challenging game remained even for both sides.
In the second half, Rhondda became very tired and Abergavenny capitalised with a relentless attacking phase and won 2-0. Both goals were scored by Becky Klappholtz.
Abergavenny’s men’s second team played newly-promoted Winchcombe for the first time and lost the match 4 -2. The team will keep their heads up for their away game next Saturday to Wooton on Edge.
