HOT on the heels of a champagne season, Abergavenny Hockey Club’s ladies team have gained promotion to Division Two the South Wales League
Abergavenny ladies have been growing from strength to strength over the last few seasons.
Now proudly fielding two league teams on a weekly basis, this season always promised to be a good one.
The firsts started the season very strong and continued to develop in strength throughout. This was testament to the squad being together for a number of years, and that consistency proved to be a formidable force.
Over 17 matches the ladies took the bull by the horns and the challenge with relish as they battled opponents from all over the South Wales region, including Swansea University, Cwmtawe, Cardiff University, Cardiff/Met, Llan & Llan, Whitchurch Valleys, Bridgend. and Chepstow.
Of the 17 matches played to date, Aber have won 13, lost three and drawn one with an incredible 98 goals scored.
This fantastic goal scoring record allowed the ladies to relax in the knowledge that their promotion was secured with three games to go. In fact they are currently the second top goal scoring team in the South Wales divisions.
One match remains against Swansea university on Sunday where Abergavenny’s aim will be to not only win, but to take the goal tally into treble figures.
All in all an amazing season for an incredible squad. Division Two beckons next season and the ladies will be more than ready for it!
Abergavenny Hockey Club is always looking to increase its membership. They have a men’s team, two ladies teams, development squads for newcomers as well as a thriving Junior section for ages 7-18.
