AS part of their Silver Anniversary celebrations Gilwern Bowls Club entertained Swansea Bowlers in a friendly fixture on Sunday.
After a few specks of rain the sun came out and Swansea just beat Gilwern 87-82.
Both clubs support the ethos that "sport is for all" and elect disabled bowlers not only in friendlies but also for their league teams.
On Saturday Gilwern returned to league action with an MBA match against Standard of Newport.
Rink one (L.Flowers) finally overcame the opposition on the penultimate end, 22 to 18.
Rink two (T.Corfield) started like a train and were ten points ahead after only three ends and maintained their superiority to the end.
Rink 3 (B.Hughes) was a nip and tuck affair finally winning 19 to 15
Rink 4 (M.Harvey) were superior over the first 15 ends leading by 8 shots, however, Standard rallied over the last six ends but were unable to catch up resulting in a 19/16 win for the home rink.
Overall match score and maximum points to Gilwern, 90-63.
The previous Wednesday Gilwern played Bailey Park in an EMBA fixture and won 69-46.
This Saturday the team are once again in MBA action with a visit to Ynysddu.
The ladies section were away to Trelewis in the Pen-y-Glyn league last Thursday. In a tight match and with the scores equal Treliwis were awarded the match on a rink basis.
This Thursday the ladies are once again in league action, with a home visit by Blaina.
