GILWERN Bowling Club were at home on Saturday in MBA league action against Beechwood, Newport but were unable to repeat their previous early win over the visitors losing the match by 89 shots to 60.
The rink of Brian Chivers were never in contention losing 10-25.
Les Flowers rink was a tight affair with both teams sharing the lead over the course of the match but unfortunately the Beechwood rink overcame the home side winning 17-15.
The rink led by Brian Hughes were in serious trouble being 15 shots in arrears after eleven ends. Having secured the mat on the 12th end Gilwern shortened the mat and started to reduce the deficit, however, the gap was to large with Gilwern finally losing 18-22.
Colin Clifford’s rink initially led their opponents 16-11 after 14 ends but were unable to maintain their momentum losing 18-22.
This Saturday the men’s section are once again in league action travelling to Garndiffaith.
Today (Thursday) the Ladies section are in Pen-y-Glyn league action with Ebbw Vale being the visitors. Next Tuesday they visit Troedyrhiw followed by their final league fixture next Thursday at home to Trelewis.
