Abergavenny CC’s third Team started their 2016 Marches League Division Three campaign with a winning draw against Goodrich seconds.
Abergavenny were put into bat, opener Morgan Bevans hit 37, wicketkeeper Nathan Holley chalked up 39 and Gareth Powell top scored with 64.
Useful contributions from Matthew Knight (21) and captain Mark Winstanley (29no) helped Aber up to 238, before being bowled out in the penultimate over.
Goodrich seconds got off to a dreadful start losing their first four wickets for only 56 runs, with youngsters Dylan Beaumont-Welsh and Meici Jones both taking two wickets each.
Craig Whistance and David Clarke kept it tight in the middle overs with Goodrich seemingly just batting the overs out to gain some extra bonus points, but the experienced batsman at the crease for Goodrich had others ideas hitting 21 off an over including three sixes to bring Goodrich back into the game.
Knight was brought into the attack late as he closed the game out for Aber, chipping in with two wickets and Beaumont-Welsh with another as Goodrich finished on 205-7. Abergavenny left with 23 points and next week they take on Ledbury seconds at Crickhowell cricket ground.
