In 1878 a home invasion and murder of a family sent shockwaves through the close-knit community of Llangibby. The man charged and hanged for the slayings was Spanish sailor Joseph Garcia. Yet a few at the time voiced disquiet that the itinerant seaman was a victim of circumstance and innocent of the terrible crimes.
