Monmouthshire Golf Club have had a busy month beginning with incoming Captain Mark Lewis’ drive in.
The Junior competition for Captains Day was won by Oliver Hulbert. The May medal played the same day was won by Jonathan White with a net 69. Division Two was won by Lewis Wallace with a net 72. The Powella Cup was played for in the afternoon and was won by Annie Davies and her partner Steve Hudd.
The coffee morning for the Ladies had to be postponed due to torrential rain – such a shame as all the stall holders had made great efforts but this is now rearranged for June 19 – make a note in your diaries!
The ladies league teams have had mixed results so far – the firsts have played Whitchurch, Brynhill, Newport seconds and Pontnewydd and have lost three matches but won one, whilst the second team have beaten Newport thirds at home but have lost to Monmouth and Rolls of Monmouth. As both teams have gone up a division this year, life was always going to be tough for them.
The Spring Mixed competition was organised by Senior Men’s captain Gareth Barker and this proved a very successful day with a good turnout of competitors. The next round of the Ping Mixed foursomes will be played at Woodlake Park against Peterstone Lakes on May 19.
Ladies Captain Maureen Jones is having a good season – she won the Stapleford competition last week and together with her partner Gwen James, has won the next round of the Daily Mail foursomes against a team from Cradoc. Good luck in the next round ladies.
The Men’s 4BBB Open competition was held at the weekend – a good entry, with M Smith and G Harris from MGC winning with 46 points, second and third places went to pairs from Neath Golf club (43 and 42 points) with R Thomas and G Hawler from MGC coming fourth with a creditable 41.
