USK’s 14-year-old Megan Vineall has been selected in the Wales Golf High Performance Programme.

The Monmouth School for Girls Year 10 Pupil is among 15 females picked in the 41-player programme streamlined to focus on producing more stars of the future.

She will be involved in training days, planning and periodic review meetings, technical assessments, coaching support, strength and conditioning, and mindset sessions.

Newport Golf Club member Megan has played three times for Wales Under-16s and won the Wales Golf Under-14 Ping Competition in 2017.

She has been involved in the Wales Golf system for the last three years and is coached by the Wales ladies’ national coach.

Megan tries to practise almost every day and has played golf since the age of five with her sister and cousin also representing Wales.

The teenager’s handicap is currently seven and it would be lower but she suffered a debilitating wrist injury this summer which hampered her playing and practising.

Wales Golf Director of Performance, Gillian O’Leary, said, “Our strategy launched this year is aimed at inspiring amateur golfers to win on the world stage, so we have selected the squads around those principles.”
