THE ground staff at the Monmouthshire golf club have been working hard to prepare the course for the year ahead and all is in hand for a successful season.

One of the first competitions of the year was the first round of the Daily Mail foursomes, when last year’s winners played against local rivals Pontnewydd. The Monmouthshire pair of Maureen Jones (Ladies vice-captain) and Gwen James played a storming round and won seven and six. Good luck in the next round ladies.

An event with a difference was held at the club last week with Antiques expert Kate Bliss giving a talk. There was a good attendance and an interesting and informative evening was had by all. Ladies Captain Sue Bradley organised the night and was pleased with the take-up of tickets – it’s always a challenge to offer a variety of entertainment to the members and it’s rewarding when members support the efforts made.

On Friday the club held the Annual St David’s Day supper which was an excellent evening. The dinner served was delicious – Julie and her team did the club proud again, the company present were on good form and the singing at the end of the evening proved the reputation for Welsh singing is well deserved. Thanks must go to Sian for organising the event and Lyn for leading the choristers.
